In January we spoke about getting to grips with who we were and living our life purposefully.
We spoke about centering happiness at the core of how we plan and execute our life.
We spoke about putting ourselves first and prioritising our peace of mind.
Now I don’t write this lightly it’s not to say that this is something that you can change at the flick of a switch. This is a powerful shift in moving from a mindset of lack to a mindset of complete abundance. The mindset that you can live life completely on your terms, and that all of the tools you need to do this are within you. However just because you have the tools it does not guarantee you know how to use them – it is okay to ask for help!
How have you been spending your time?
Where are you with the things you said you wanted to do, when you wrote down those goals you will have also written down why you wanted them?
Have you remembered to prioritise them?
How have you been working on them?
This is not a one time thing, it’s a repeated process, laying the bricks one-by-one to build the wall. You are building yourself up. March marked a year of lockdowns and restrictions. It has been uncharted territory, we have been navigating the situation the best we can. You have done the best you can. Whatever that looks like even if you’ve been at home simply putting on a brave face you are doing your best.
The world is slowly opening up around us and we are being released in the “new normal”.
Have you questioned what the “new normal” will look like for you? The world has faced this pandemic for over a year now, things have changed. You have changed. We have all changed. Our behaviours, our thoughts, our habits. It is all different to what it was before.
The world as we knew it has changed.
I want you to read that over and really sit with that, have you actually taken a moment to let that resonate with you – or have you been in survival mode operating on auto-pilot? This is an important thing to understand, because this will help to uncover where you are with your goals.
Are your new behaviours, thoughts and habits serving you? I want you to answer honestly, what could you be doing better, are you doing your very best?
The habits that you hold need to serve you positively, they need to be purposeful. We all have habits, whether they are bad or good is a matter of perspective. It’s not about the habits you plan to have, at the moment it’s about the daily routines and habits you have in place right now! Analyse what your day looks like on a day-to-day basis and how you are taking care of yourself. What do you do without thinking about it, that supports you moving towards your goals?
It’s okay to be fearful of change, it’s okay to be anxious about the world you became comfortable in no longer existing; it’s quite a hard concept to grasp. There is no shame in admitting that you are disappointed and that things are not as you had expected. You were thrown into a situation that nothing could have prepared you for. You cannot control what disappoints you but you can control how you react. We have to be honest, some of us will emerge stronger and some of us will not, that is life. I do not want you to feel ashamed if that brought up things inside you that you didn’t know were there.
We cannot control what has happened in the past, but we can control what we have right now, we have the present moment. You have a key part to play in what happens next. The responsibility falls on you to take action. This is real life. It’s time to get comfortable in the discomfort and no I do not mean this in a fluffy idealistic sentiment. I mean seriously, it is time to seek help as soon as you know you need it (even if you’re petrified), it’s a time to rise up to challenges (even when you don’t feel quite ready), ultimately it’s a time to seek clarity over comfort.
I’m going to ask you again, how are you spending your time?
It’s a new month, a new quarter. Welcome to the new normal.
